Educational Equity
Ensuring equitable access to educational resources, regardless of location or income, is of great interest to me. It was wonderful to be able to partner with CPS on this project to highlight this important issue and to provide a crucial resource to staff, parents and students alike.
After meeting with the client through several brainstorm sessions and requirements gathering, I began researching the ARA in-depth in order to fully wrap my mind around the project prior to beginning preliminary sketches and wireframes. Throughout several iterations, we began to narrow down the layout and site map. We knew it was important to allow the user to search for ARA reports on specific schools and to highlight community events with a focus on the ARA. Once we had a clear feature set nailed down, I began to explore the look and feel of the microsite.
Incorporating the bold color palette and a modular layout throughout led to a clean, modern aesthetic, allowing the focus to rest on all the important data points as well as site imagery. We knew the data here was the real star, but that users would need to be engaged and delighted by the design in order to explore it further.
